Chorus Auditions

Maestra Carol Jacobson is announcing auditions for the Eureka Symphony Chorus for the 17-18 season. This group, in it’s second year as a performing group, will perform with the orchestra on the Winter concert, singing Gustav Holst’s "In The Bleak Mid-Winter" and an arrangement of "Chestnuts Roasting on the Open Fire" or "The Christmas Song". On the final concert of the season the chorus will perform the Cherubini Requiem with the orchestra. Chorus membership requires a commitment of approximately six to twelve weeks for participants for preparation and performances for each concert. Rehearsals will be held Monday evenings at Christ Episcopal Church in Eureka from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and subsequently with the orchestra at the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts.

The auditions will require:

  1. a short solo piece acapella of auditioner’s choice
  2. demonstration of tonal memory
  3. ability to sing major or minor triads on any given pitch
  4. ability to sing up or down a half or whole step on any given pitch
  5. ability to sing a chromatic scale
  6. ability to sight sing a relatively simple six to eight measure passage provided at the audition

Auditions for singers will take approximately 15 minutes and will be held on Friday, September 8th from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, September 9th from 5 to 8 p.m. at Christ Church in Eureka. To arrange an audition, please contact Personnel Manager Vanessa Kibbe at or 818-521-5666.
